Have we evolved:

Condoms make my dick itchy. They interfere with the pleasure of sex, they are expensive and they cannot be flushed down toilets. All that said I still wear one to be safe. So, when I heard about the absurd situation with the bookstore I couldn’t help but write something. What could be possibly better than the overlying topic?

Sexual repression, contextually, is so damn ridiculous it will be hard to explicate the finer points effectively. That aside, in terms of strong sexual progression, have we evolved?

There was historical merit for those in power to repress the sexual appetites of their citizenry. In a past wrought with disease and extraordinarily high infant mortality rates, abstinence from sex could save lives. One of their ideas for a contraceptive included a brilliant technique that required using pig intestines like we use condoms.

Ultimately, society was able to defend against the desires of genitals by creating a system of values that demonized sex.

Whether it was religion based or not, women were by far the most oppressed sexually. Remaining a virgin as a young woman was the paramount expectation. No viable suitor would ever take a wife that had been “defiled” by another man’s penis.

The oppressive act was contaminated with leverage and attitudinal biases that heavily benefited males. Be that as it may, the logic strongly reflected a more sagacious method of thought.

If the girl were still a virgin then she would have been significantly less likely to have an STD and would be much more healthy and thus be a better life partner. Syphilis, when untreated, like it was in the past, is absolutely one of the last diseases anyone would want to be infected by.

But that was then. Clearly we have better methods for preventing insemination and reducing the risk of spreading STDs.

The risks involved with having sex with contemporary knowledge are but a fraction of what was risked in the past.

The majority of Americans also do not participate in prearranged marriages. Women today are not seen as objects for baby making and a dowry. Women have rights and individual privileges. Virginity is no longer a prerequisite for marriage.

Why then does our society persist with this arcane need to repress sexual activity?

The truth is that if Americans were socialized in an environment open to sex, the appropriate knowledge and tools would be available to everyone.

A person will have sex when they want to and at an age they feel is right for them. Teens get pregnant when they do not have access to prophylactics and education.

Society needs to examine how it relays information about this most basic of instincts. Making sex into something that is reflective of a harmful action only confuses people and that’s when bad things happen.

Rape and premature pregnancies are an illustration of how our culture is being misled by a dominant thought structure that no longer carries with it any verisimilitude.

The fear of sexual promiscuity is based upon a hollow foundation. As a culture it’s important we question this foundation and work toward its dissolution.

So, in terms of progressing in the realm of sex…have we evolved?

Verdict: Hell no…not yet.
