A veteran to the game and to the team, Boise State senior running back Ian Johnson just might be feeling this is his last go around with the Broncos. However, Johnson is making sure his last year is going to be one to remember.
“I’ve never felt this ready for a game. Body feels great, I’m confident in the offense,” Johnson said.
While the offensive line was looked at and pegged as a young and inexperienced line, Johnson, whom the line will be blocking for, doesn’t see it that way.
“I’m confident, I’m really happy with them, they had a great off-season, they’ve worked real hard,” Johnson said.
This past summer in fact, the whole team worked real hard, working to bring back the chip on their shoulder and their blue-collar style of play.
Though, throughout last season and during the off-season, many players stepped up, which is a good thing, but it also means sharing the ball.
As far as running backs goes, the Broncos are loaded. The talent starts with Johnson and explodes with young promise in sophomores Jeremy Avery and D.J. Harper and freshman Dog Martin.
“It’s awesome to see these guy just really step up and making plays,” Johnson said. “We’re going to be great. These guys are so young – they’re going to make an impact.”
Johnson said he’s really not concerned with playing time; if someone’s hot, keep them in.
Heading into Saturday’s game versus in state rival Idaho State University, Johnson knows they are not going to be a walk in the park.
“Definitely going to be a good opponent, we know that they’ve got talent,” Johnson said.
Also Saturday, expect big things from Johnson, because it is his last go around as a senior and he’s 100 percent ready to go.
