Ian Johnson has been announced as a candidate for the 2008 Doak Walker Award.

The award is handed out to the one of the nations top quarterbacks. This award requires candidates to be in good academic standing.

Johnson is the active career leader in scoring touchdowns (46), career rushing touchdowns (45) and career all-purpose running touchdowns (46) as well as being ranked second in carries (602). Johnson also ranks among the nations top running backs in scoring-total points (fourth), yards per carry (sixth), rushing yards per game (seventh) and scoring-points per game (seventh).

The Western Athletic Conference produced two other candidates including Deonte Jackson (So.) of University of Idaho and Luke Lippincott (Sr.) of University of Nevada-Reno.

Semifinalists will be selected on Nov. 10. Finalists will be announced on Nov. 24. The recipient of the award will be announced on ESPN, live, Thursday Dec. 11.

The Doak Walker Award is in its 19th season and is the only major collegiate award requiring good academic standing and a pace to graduate within a year of their classification.
