Boise State Women’s tennis earns 2008 ITA All-Academic Team Award

The Boise State women’s tennis team has been named a 2008 Intercollegiate Tennis Association All-Academic Team award winner, while three Bronco student-athletes earned ITA Scholar-Athlete individual honors.

The Broncos were one of 102 NCAA Division I teams to earn a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above (on a 4.00 scale). The Broncos earned a 3.38 GPA during the 2007-08 academic year.

Juniors Laura Baum (Stuttgart, Germany) and Jana Mackova (Nova Dubnica, Slovakia) were joined by sophomore Bianca Jochimsen (Rodgau, Germany) as three of 499 ITA Scholar-Athlete individual award winners.

The 2008 award is Baum’s career first, posting a 3.70 GPA this year. Mackova earns her third ITA Scholar-Athlete award after receiving a 3.50 GPA. Jochimsen earned her second consecutive award with a perfect 4.0 GPA.

Men’s track & field
receive academic honors from USTFCCCA

While the Boise State’s men’s track & field team has proven to be a force on the track, it appears to be no slouch in the classroom either as sophomore Zacharias Arnos, senior Jarrod Stevens and junior Simon Wardhaugh were named to the 2008 Men’s Division I All Academic Track & Field team by U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association, Thursday.

In addition to their individual honors, the Boise State men’s track & field team was also recognized by the USTFCCCA for their success in the classroom with a cumulative team GPA of 3.020. To be nominated, the team must carry a minimum 3.000 team cumulative grade-point average.

Softball team adds
assistant coaches

Erin Thorpe, Boise State’s head softball coach, announced the hiring of Justin Kloczko and Brianne McGowan as assistant coaches for the 2009 inaugural season. The two additions completed the Bronco staff with Kloczko filling the position of first assistant while McGowan will serve as the second.

Both have already relocated to Boise and will start their responsibilities immediately.
