Swimming and diving adds two more to roster

The Boise State swimming and diving team inked two new commitments to join the Bronco family for the 2008-09 season, head coach Kristin Hill announced Tuesday.

Here is a look at the latest duo to join the 2008-09 recruiting class:

Kelly Forrester

Forrester attended Chaparral High School where she swam for head coach Dave Hildebrandt. She was state champion in the 100 breaststroke, 200 medley relay, 200 free relay and 400 free relay. Forrester also holds the school record in the 200 medley relay and 200 free relay and was on the 200 medley relay team that set the state record. During her time at Chaparral, she was a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and Athletes Supporting Athletic Programs.

Kirsten “Kirdy” Franco

Franco attended Spanish Springs High School where she swam for head coach Ted Banson. She was a three-time state champion in the 100 fly and set the school record in the 100 fly, 100 back and 200 IM. Franco was also a High School All-American and High School regional record holder in the 100 fly, and was named state high school swimmer of the year for the 2007-2008 season. Outside of the high school season, Franco swam with RENO Aquatics under coach Dave Hoover. She also served at the Veterans Hospital for two years and volunteered at the local animal shelter.

Boise State Volleyball Picked Seventh in 2008 WAC Coaches’ Poll

The Boise State volleyball team has been picked to finish seventh in the Western Athletic Conference preseason coaches’ poll. Defending WAC volleyball champion Hawai’i has been selected to defend its crown in 2008 and take home its 13th consecutive regular-season title.

Out of the nine WAC teams, the Broncos earned 20 points to take the seventh spot in the regular season rankings, according to the coaches. Their 2008 outlook puts Boise State one spot ahead of their 2007 finish, where they placed eighth in the WAC with a 2-14 conference record.

The 2008 WAC season begins August 29 with all nine teams in action. For the first time ever, the WAC Volleyball Tournament will be held in Honolulu on the campus of the University of Hawai’i. The nine-team tournament will be held November 20-23.
