Gordy Presnell, Boise State University women’s head basketball coach, announced the hiring of Calamity McEntire as an assistant coach July 10.
McEntire comes to Boise State after spending two years at Santa Barbara where she served as director of women’s basketball operations. At Santa Barbara, McEntire was responsible for organizing film exchange, team travel and some fundraising activities.
Before working at Santa Barbara, McEntire was an assistant coach at Fresno State University from 2004-06. In addition to on-floor coaching at Fresno State, she managed recruiting and monitored academic progress of student athletes.
McEntire graduated from the University of Tennessee in 2003. While at Tennessee, she worked as an equipment manager for the Lady Vols from May 2001 – July 2003. She also worked as the equipment manager/gym director for the Pat Head Summitt Summer Basketball Camp from 2001-03. During her two-year tenure with the Lady Vols, McEntire oversaw equipment operations, coordinated fundraising and marketing efforts and assisted the coaching staff in areas such as recruit planning, monitoring academic progress of student athletes and additional administrative duties.
McEntire played two seasons at Eastern Oklahoma State University where she led the Mountaineers to a Region II Championship and a No. 4 national ranking.
Registration opens for Boise’s first annual BAM Jam 3-on-3 basketball tournament
Registration is now open for downtown Boise’s first annual BAM (Boise Area Metro) Jam. Participants can register at bamjamboise.com. Registration is first come, first served for 300 teams.
BAM Jam will take place Aug. 8-9 in BoDo, where streets between Front Street and River Street will be closed to make room for 30 courts. BAM Jam is open to all age groups in third grade or above. Teams will be placed into brackets according to competition level, age and gender. Teams will compete for bragging rights and championship T-shirts. All proceeds from BAM Jam will benefit these local charities: Boys and Girls Club, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Idaho Select and the Idaho Coalition against Sexual and Domestic Violence.
“BAM Jam brings something to Boise that is very unique and locally beneficial,” Tournament Organizer Vince Hordemann said. “Hopefully, BAM Jam will become a highlight of summers in Boise. It’s a large-scale, family-friendly event that anyone can participate in, and it’s for a great cause.”
Hordemann also commented on the registration process.
“Registration is limited to 300 teams this year, so be sure to register early to reserve your spot,” Hordemann said.
BAM Jam was made possible by generous donations from sponsors Men Today Men Tomorrow, Idaho Trust National Bank and Drake Cooper.
