Linebacker Shields to miss senior season
Boise State Head Football Coach Chris Petersen announced May 1 that linebacker David Shields will miss his senior season because of continuing shoulder problems.
Shields will use a medical hardship and remain on scholarship. He will stay with the team in an undetermined role through December when he expects to graduate. He won’t count toward the Broncos’ limit of 85 scholarships.
Shields was a part-time starter as both a sophomore and junior. He finished his career with 88 tackles, nine tackles for loss and 1.5 quarterback sacks.
His best season was the 2006 season, when he helped the Broncos to an undefeated record, capped by a win in the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl, with 44 tackles and five tackles for loss.
Broncos sign junior college forward Sean Imadiyi
Boise State University Head Men’s Basketball Coach Greg Graham announced May 3 that Sean Imadiyi, a 6-foot-7, 200-pound forward from Arizona Western College, has signed a National Letter of Intent.
Imadiyi (Uh-mod-ee) was a National Junior College Athletic Association third-team All-America pick after averaging 16.1 points, 6.1 rebounds and 1.2 blocks per game.
He earned both first-team All-Region I and All-Arizona Community College Athletic Conference honors. Imadiyi led the conference and finished among the top six in the nation in field goal percentage making 71 percent of his shots. He was also named the ACCAC Player of the Week.
Imadiyi, who originally signed with New Mexico out of high school, led Arizona Western to a regular-season championship with a 26-3 record, 20-2 in league games.
As a high school senior, Imadiyi averaged 17.5 points and 9.5 rebounds while leading Corona Del Sol High School to the Arizona Sate 5A championship game in 2006. He was named the Central Region Player of the Year after setting a school record with 68 blocks in a season.
Imadiyi is the third member of the 2008 Boise State recruiting class. He joins forward Robert Arnold and guard La’Shard Anderson, who committed during the November early signing period.
