Veterans for Peace, Chapter 117 and Whiskey Ghost Promotions will present a very special two day event, the “Benefit Concert for Homeless Veterans.” The charity-centered concert will take place this weekend, Friday, May 2 and Saturday, May 3 at Terrapin Station, located at 1519 W. Main Street, in the Boise Linen District at 9 p.m.
The proceeds generated by cover charge fees ($5 for each night separately or $8 to both events) will be donated to the Interfaith Sanctuary Homeless Shelter, which assists homeless men and women who come through their doors.
The shelter is in desperate need of basic household items, which explains why cover charge discounts are available if attendees help event coordinators to stock the shelves of the Interfaith Sanctuary with groceries.
The following beverage-related items will be graciously accepted: coffee (large cans), tea, instant hot chocolate (packets only), instant creamer and sugar. Honey, Cup O’ Noodles, crackers, cookies, peanut butter, jelly, instant oatmeal (packets only), granola bars, pretzels and corn chips will serve as snacks for those who call the shelter home.
Other helpful items include paper bowls and plates, paper towels, napkins, plastic utensils, stir sticks, hot cups, toilet paper, trash bags (both large and small), hand wipes, facial tissues, Q-Tips, books and magazines.
Each usable item donated will be rewarded with a $1 deduction from the event’s regular cover charge. Charitable attendees will be doing a great service by donating materials; it will enable the shelter to take better care of their underprivileged residents.
This event not only offers the chance to help the community by practicing generosity, but it also promises to be a great night of entertainment and fun.
An exciting raffle will take place both nights. For a chance to score prizes, plan to purchase tickets for $1 each, 5 for $4, 10 for $7 or 15 for $10, while jamming to the tunes of the evening provided by Boise’s Voice of Reason and Jupiter Holiday on Friday, and Equaleyes and Stickerville on Saturday.
Influenced by Bob Marley and the Wailers, the men of Voice of Reason are sure to bring a beautiful island sound to Terrapin Station. Hoony (guitars, vocals), Andrew Furnee (bass, vocals), John Phillips (drums), Troy Trumpet (trumpet, vocals), Phil Tenor (saxophone), Joe Hamlin (trombone, vocals) and Russ Phifer (keyboards, vocals) are the local boys responsible for bringing a little reggae flavor to Boise. Check them out at myspace.com/voiceofreasonreggae.
Self described as pop rock experimental, Jeff Crosby (Guitar, Vocals), Brian Louderbough (Bass, Vocals), William Prescott (Drums, Vocals) and Daniel the Hawk (Keys/Accordion) make up the cool quartet of Equaleyes. With a wide influence, from Pink Floyd to Dave Matthew’s Band, this is a local act not to be missed Saturday night. Learn more about the band at equaleyeslive.com.
The experimental jam band of Jupiter Holiday consists of the local musical stylings of Mike Bassett (guitar, vocals), Jason Grazian (drums, vocals), Kreed Kleinkopf (bass, vocals), Aaron Shamy (guitar, guitar synth, vocals), Bryan Carrier (percussion, electronic percussion, synth) and Michael Durrant (sound, lighting). These guys play bluegrass and may throw in some techno as well; the only certainty with this group is good music, whatever genre it hails from. Learn more about them at freewebs.com/jupiterholiday.
Stephen Morningstar (guitar, vocals), Thomas Borda (bass, vocals), Cadom Skow (drums, vocals) and Kendra Hackett (keyboards, vocals) are the four musical minds behind Stickerville. With their fun upbeat rock music, Saturday’s show is sure to be a party. Find out more about the band at myspace.com/stickerville.
