BSU softball signs six more recruits
With less than a year before the first opening pitch in Boise State softball history, Head Coach Erin Thorpe announced Friday the signing of six more athletes to national letters of intent. The new additions bring the current roster total to 14. The newest recruits include two junior college transfers and four current high school seniors.
Thorpe’s April additions are Laurel Wyatt (Ellensburg, Wash., Wenatchee Valley CC), Kelsey Perkins (Puyallup, Wash., South Puget Sound CC), Kellie Caplan (Woodland Hills, Calif., El Camino Real HS), Christina Capobianco (Laguna Niguel, Calif., El Toro HS), Kelly Sweeney (Pleasanton, Calif., Foothill HS), and Aubray Zell (Lakewood, Calif., Lakewood HS).
BSU honors Paul J. Schneider
Following a 35-year career as the “Voice of the Broncos,” long-time radio announcer Paul J. Schneider will be honored by Boise State University for his service to Bronco athletics.
Gene Bleymaier, director of athletics at BSU, announced last week that the athletic department and the Bronco Athletic Association will contribute $10,000 to set up an endowed scholarship in Schneider’s name for a football or men’s basketball player.
BSU will also provide Schneider and his family lifetime seats in the press area of the “Stueckle Sky Club,” which is currently under construction at Bronco Stadium. The press area will also be named the “Paul J. Schneider Press Area” in honor of his work as a media member in the community.
Schneider will be recognized at halftime of BSU’s 2008 season opening football game against Idaho State University on Aug. 30 with a “Distinguished Service Award,” and will be nominated for membership in the BSU Athletic Hall of Fame when the next class is selected.
A native of Illinois, Schneider moved to Boise shortly after graduating from the University of Idaho. After also working in local television for 10 years, Schneider focused his attention on radio where he has won more than 40 awards for excellence over the past three decades.
