Merritt ties golf record
Boise State University golfer Troy Merritt tied the OGIO Pacific Coast Intercollegiate record by shooting a 14-under 199 to win the tournament, April 1, at the Rancho San Marcos Golf Course in Santa Barbara, Calif.
Merritt led wire-to-wire at the OGIO Pacific Coast Intercollegiate as he captured his fourth victory of the 2007-08 season, tying a school record.
Merritt opened the tournament by registering a 66 (-5) before shooting a 68 (-3) in the second and closing out with a 65 (-6) in the final round to win the tournament by eight strokes.
This was the second consecutive tournament victory for Merritt who captured the individual title at the Ron Moore Invitational with a school-record 200 (-16), Mar. 21-23. Merritt now leads the country in scoring with a 69.4 stroke per round average.
Aided by Merritt’s 65 (-6), the Broncos put on a charge in the third round to register a 284 (E) and move into a tie for second place in the 12-team with Cal Poly at 875 (+23). BSU (N0. 109) also knocked off Loyola Marymount (No. 73) and Santa Barbara (No. 89).
BSU gymnastics heads to Oklahoma
The wait is over for the No. 16 Boise State gymnastics team as the 2008 National Collegiate Women’s Gymnastics Championships regional selections were announced Monday afternoon by the NCAA.
The Broncos have been placed in the South Central Regional hosted by the University of Oklahoma on Saturday, April 12.
There they will face No. 4 Alabama, No. 10 Oklahoma, No. 19 Arizona State, No. 24 Illinois and No. 36 Southeast Missouri State. They have only faced Arizona State in their regular season schedule, but earned a 196.00-194.550 win over the Sun Devils.
BSU drew a regular rotation schedule, beginning on vault. Set up just like the six-team Western Athletic Conference Championships last Saturday, the competition will consist of the four events as well as two byes.
The Broncos will have a bye in rotation two, followed by bars in rotation three and beam in rotation four.
Rotation five will be the Broncos’ second bye, therefore allowing them to end their competition on one of their strongest events, the floor exercise.
