Not so special shirts

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – At the team press conference on Thursday, the Louisville Cardinal players were wearing Adidas warm up shirts that had the saying: “Believe in We” and on the back: “March is a Brotherhood.”

Initially there was a local assumption that the shirts held some significant meaning for the team. According to the players, however, the shirts really don’t have that much of a special meaning. They’re just shirts.

“They just handed them out yesterday at practice,” Louisville center David Padgett said. “Kind of one of those new shirts that we have that we’re just wearing around.”

A rivalry renewed

This won’t be the first time senior Matt Nelson has faced Louisville Cardinal Terrence Williams.

Back in high school, Nelson attended Skyline High School in Issaquah, Wash. while Williams went to Rainer Beach in Seattle, Wash. Williams’ team ending up winning the game. Nelson joked earlier this week that he would like to get some redemption against Williams Friday night. When asked about it on Thursday, Williams down played the match up as a mere side note.

“Probably in high school it was more of an individual thing with me and my team and we won, but now its more of a team thing,” Williams said. “So I can’t really go out and we’ll that’s not going to happen, we’re going to beat them. I wish him the best of luck to him and his team.”

Time not a problem for BSU

So far this season the Boise State men’s basketball team has played in practically every time zone in the United States. That means a tip off time of 8:40 p.m. central time, is no sweat for the Broncos.

“We’ve played in them all,” senior Matt Bauscher said.

And he’s right. This season BSU played in Mountain, Central, Pacific, Eastern and Hawaiian times zones.

LP Patches

During the Western Athletic Conference tournament last week, the Boise State men’s and women’s basketball teams wore sewn on red patches with the letters “LP” in white letters in their jerseys.

The significance? The patches are worn in honor of Associate Athletic Director Lisa Parker who is currently battling cancer. It is unclear whether or not NCAA rules allow the Broncos to have them on their jerseys tonight, but we’ll see.

NCAA, not a first for senior Bronco

Senior Matt Nelson is the only Bronco on the roster to have gone to the NCAA tournament before. During his freshman year, while playing for Eastern Washington, Nelson helped lead his team to the tournament in 2004. The team they played – Oklahoma State.
