The Ha’ Penny Bridge Pub, located in the heart of BoDo at 855 Broad Street, Suite 250, is the place to go for Irish food and beverages.

Ha’ Penny has been open for more than six years and caters to Boise’s need for an authentic Irish pub.

It serves its purpose well.

“The best thing about this particular bar is that it’s laid back, it’s quiet, there’s a large diversity of age groups that come here and it’s off the beaten path,” bartender Jacob Detweiler said.

Ha’ Penny’s large room is split in half by a bar and two stone corridors. It contains booths, high tables and lower dining tables.

Old-fashioned liquor cabinets with a variety of Irish whiskeys and other liquors hang behind the exceptionally tall bar.

The establishment has a rustic feel with vintage-styled lighting, wood floors, a stage and a pool table.

Ha’ Penny also serves a full menu of Irish and traditional American food.

The reuben (corned beef, sauerkraut and thousand island dressing on rye) surpasses most if not all of the reuben sandwiches in town.

The Irish stew is also amazing.

It is made from celery, carrots, potatoes and lamb, which is marinated in Guinness Irish Stout for more than 24 hours.

Ha’ Penny receives a variety of CDs from bands of almost all genres, looking for the opportunity to play there.

The pub tries to have live music seven days a week.

“The goal of the bar is to make everybody happy … we try to keep our customers satisfied and we have a variety of music every night,” Manager and Co-owner Dell Jaha said.

Ha’ Penny will be serving green Bud Light for St. Patrick’s Day, and, of course, Guiness.

“I like everybody here, I’m friends with everybody here, and it’s a great community bar at a nice location,” patron Amada Bailey said. “St. Patty’s day is going to rock!”

The scene and atmosphere at Ha’ Penny fits perfectly for today’s holiday and is far different than most of the bars downtown. Check it out, and as always, please drink responsibly.
