


Men’s golf finishes eighth
Boise State University men’s golf team recorded an even-par 864 at the two-day Fresno State Lexus Classic to finish in eighth place in the 20-team field.
The Broncos posted an even-par 288 in the third round of the tournament which was held at the par-72, 6,729-yard Fort Washington Country Club in Fresno, Calif., to move up the leader board.
BSU finished ahead of all three Western Athletic Conference teams, Nevada, Fresno State and Idaho, in the field.
The Broncos, ranked 122nd according to Golfstat, knocked off seven teams, Loyola Marymount (No. 70), Kansas State (No. 75), Fresno State (No. 81), Santa Clara (No. 89), Portland (No. 108), Nevada (No. 108) and BYU (No. 110), ranked above them in the standings with their eighth place finish.
Troy Merritt led all BSU golfers with a 3-under 213 to finish tied for 15th place. The BSU men’s golf team will continue its season Mar. 21-23 with the Ron Moore Invitational in Phoenix, Ariz.
Women’s golf places 13th
The Boise State University women’s golf team finished in 13th place in the 21-team field at the 2008 Pinehurst Challenge with a 946 (+82). The Broncos completed the tournament Tuesday, Mar. 11, with a 26-over 314 on the Pinehurst number 8 golf course in Pinehurst, N.C.
Sophomores Iris Ocariza and Minhee Park each registered a 237 (+21) to pace the Broncos in a tie for 43rd place.
BSU was consistent throughout the tournament as it registered two 314 (+26) and a 318 (+30). The Broncos held sole possession of fifth place after day one with a 314 (+26), but the field caught up.
The BSU women’s golf team will continue its season Mar. 29-30 in Tucson, Ariz., with the Mountain View Collegiate.
Redmon wins gymnast of the week award
Boise State’s Hannah Redmon has been named the Western Athletic Conference Gymnast of the Week for the week of March 3-Mar. 9. The honor is Redmon’s fourth WAC Gymnast of the Week title this season.
Redmon, a freshman from Reno, Nev. finished in a tie for first place in the all around in a meet against No. 20 Arizona State and No. 21 Penn State. She tied with Penn State’s Brandi Personett, who is ranked No. 22 in the nation in the all-around.
Redmon tied her career high on vault, 9.90, placing second. She posted a near career-high 9.825 on bars, where she tied for fifth, and set a new career high on beam with a 9.750.
She also posted a 9.850 on floor to place third. Her all-around score was 39.325, a .20 improvement over her career best and second best mark in the WAC all season.
Werbeck earns WAC honor
Boise State’s Brent Werbeck has been named the Western Athletic Conference Tennis Players of the Week for the week of Mar. 2-9. This is the first career WAC Player of the Week honor for Werbeck.
Werbeck, a senior from Austin, Texas, shined for the Broncos in victories over No. 38 William and Mary and No. 52 San Diego State.
In singles action, Werbeck tallied a perfect 3-0 effort at the No. 3 position, first topping Keziel Juneau of William and Mary, 6-2, 6-0, and defeating San Diego State’s Andre Felis, 6-1, 6-3, before knocking off No. 97 Omar Altmann of No. 43 Pepperdine in a come-from-behind win, 2-6, 7-5, 6-3.
