Located at 650 S. Vista is The Plank, International Pub & Grill. The Plank is an all-ages pub and grill.
The bar features a pirate-like atmosphere with seating, tables and a bar that make you believe you’re inside a ship.
The bar is also enamored with a variety of flags, pictures of ships and boats, the standard alcohol signs, posters, mirrors and any other such pirate paraphernalia expected by a buccaneer coming to get a daily pint.
The goal of the bar is “just to keep it friendly, where people can come in and get a beer or a meal whether it’s in the afternoon, in the evening or for an all-nighter,” Jen Creechley, a bartender, said.
The Plank is a beer bar with 20 draft beers on tap and a variety of bottled beer. On any given day patrons can choose from about 70 different beers.
The beer selection at The Plank ranges from Black Flag and Leffe Belgium Blonde to traditional domestics like Coors Light and Pabst Blue Ribbon.
“As far as the rotating handles [taps] go, we’re always trying to get beers that other places don’t have,” Krystle Lake, a bartender, said.
Prices at the plank are $2.75 domestics and $3.75 micros with pitchers at $7.50 for domestics and $13 for micros.
Happy hour at The Plank is 4-7 p.m., Monday through Friday, and 1-7 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
During happy hour, patrons can purchase Domestics at $2 and micros at $3.25 with pitchers at $6.50 for domestics and $12 for micros.
The Plank also offers house wines and “fun wines” from $4.50-$6 a glass and $16-$22 by the bottle.
The Plank is currently celebrating its Barley Wine Festival.
Barley wine is essentially a strong ale that originated in England.
It fits somewhere between beer and wine, with a taste like beer, a bite like wine and about an 11 percent APV.
These ales range from $5.50 drafts to 24 ounce bottles made by Talon or Rogue’s Old Crustacean for $13. Customers can also sample any of these ales at $2 for a five ounce glass.
The Plank also has a beer tour as well as a beer club and a wine club. The beer tour is a compilation of 52 beers. Upon completion, patrons receive the “I walked The Plank” T-shirt and $15 gift card.
There is an up-front charge (not a monthly charge, it lasts forever) of $25 for beer or $15 for wine to join the beer or wine club.
Then, patrons get their own glass with their names inscribed.
The glass is also larger than the ones the Plank normally serves, and patrons gets more booze for the buck.
If you’re looking for a cheap bet on your beer, The Plank offers PBR at $1.75 a pint and pitchers at $3.75. All beer and food is 10 percent off with Boise State ID card.
Along with the atmosphere, The Plank has a patio in the back decorated with its own graffiti and equipped with horseshoes and corn hole (the been bag game). The Plank also hosts events almost every night.
On “Blue Monday” there is an in-house pool tournament. On “Treasure Tuesday” there is open mic music. On “Wench Wednesday” there is open mic on odd-numbered days. On “Dirty Thursday” there is karaoke night and on Saturdays they have live music.
If your looking to find a friendly atmosphere, have a few beers and let your inner pirate loose, The Plank is the spot.
“It’s a nice bar, it’s laid back, and I come here for the selection of beer,” Chris McElhatton, patron, said.
