There’s a new option in Digital Designer software: a grown-up version of LEGO fun is available for download on both Mac and PC.
The virtual building software, “LEGO Digital Designer 2,” is free to download.
While it probably shouldn’t be the answer to classroom boredom, it is a great way to fulfill the desire to play with LEGOs without having to haul around a bunch of blocks.
Users can build fortresses and machines much like they did as a kid, except in a virtual world.
LEGO Digital Designer 2 is a CAD-like software available for both Windows and Mac systems.
It allows people to build anything their mind can think of out of the legendary LEGO blocks on a computer.
Along with being able to build the ultimate design, people can print out an inventory of the bricks it takes to build their masterpieces.
With the inventory list, users will know which blocks they need to purchase in LEGO stores or buy online in the LEGO factory to build their computer creations in reality.
The key features listed on the LEGO Website for LEGO Digital Designer 2 include: the ability for users to zoom in and out, rotate the view 360 degrees, connect bricks to each other and rotate them and move any hinges so users can explore just how their various pieces fit together for the creation.
This allows people to become the creators of their own LEGO visions.
The program allows users to start out with 17 pre-built models so they don’t get overwhelmed when first starting out with all the options that are available in the program.
All of these pre-built designs interact as if they were built by the user, so users will be able to change the model to how they want it.
LEGO Digital Designer 2 brings a few new features to the program from its previous version.
It includes quicker selection of bricks, more ease to connect bricks when building, an improved virtual building guide generator, an improved building experience and a complete redesign of the interface as listed at lego.com.
With 763 total bricks available for users to play with they will be able to relive their childhood of spending hours creating LEGO designs, or if users have children, the kids can use the system to spend time building and learning.
LEGO Digital Designer 2 is a free program that can be downloaded from LEGO directly at ldd.lego.com.
There currently isn’t a version available for Linux.
There was no information regarding whether or not the new LEGO program was compatible with Wine, VMWare or Virtual Box.
This is definitely a program which anyone who loved or loves playing with LEGOs should look into.
As a free program, it’s easily available on many Websites and a program worth exploring.
