Sen. Barack Obama D-Ill. is scheduled to give a speech at the Taco Bell Arena on the Boise State University Campus Saturday, Feb. 2, at 8:30 a.m.
The doors of the Arena open at 7 a.m. Attendees were asked to R.S.V.P. at www.idaho.barackobama.com. No bags, purses or signage will be allowed inside.
Chani Wiggins, Communications Director for Idaho for Obama said, “Obama is coming here. There has been such a surge of interest and support in the state of Idaho and he knows how important the state of Idaho is. This is an opportunity he just can’t pass up.”
Obama’s advance team flew in Monday to join field organizers and volunteers to search out a location in Idaho for Obama to appear this Saturday.
“This is historic; finally a Caucus where Idaho has a say in the presidential election, a real say,” Wiggins said. “Who is going to be the final two candidates and who is going to be the next President of the Unites States? This is such a close race and the campaign has been going on for a year for all of us . it’s just historic!”
Obama, the junior senator from Illinois, leads the race for the Democratic nomination with 63 delegates. Sen. Hillary Clinton is in second with 48 and Sen. John Edwards trails with 26 delegates. Edwards formally dropped out the race yesterday in New Orleans, so the race comes down to two candidates fighting for delegates.
Idaho will award 23 delegates to the candidates for the Democratic national convention, to be held Aug. 25-28 in Denver, Colo.
