Boise State (9-1, 6-0) senior quarterback Taylor Tharp was nearly perfect in leading the Broncos to a 52-0 rout of the Utah State Aggies (0-10, 0-6) Saturday afternoon in Logan, Utah. Tharp completed 26 of 29 passes for 283 passing yards and a pair of touchdown passes.
Ian Johnson returned to his top rushing form with 110 rushing yards on 19 carries. He also found the end zone once on a 15-yard burst with 1:01 left in the second quarter. Johnson’s performance was his best in four weeks, since he rushed for 200 yards against Nevada. The start was Johnson’s second since suffering a bruised kidney against the Wolf Pack.
The BSU special teams unit came up big once again, with a blocked punt and a blocked field goal in the game. Ellis Powers blocked the first USU punt of the game, which was picked up by Ia Falo who returned it 16-yards untouched for the touchdown. The score was the first career touchdown for Falo, a senior from Mountain Home.
The shutout was the first for a BSU defense on the road in 31 years. BSU held Leon Jackson III to just 95 passing yards on 7-of-15 passing. The Broncos also forced three interceptions by backup USU quarterback Jake McCormick.
