


Boise State remerges in Top 25
The Boise State football team returned to the Associated Press Top 25 rankings Sunday after its 34-21 victory at Fresno State, Friday night.
The Broncos were voted in at No. 21, which marks just the third week that BSU has been in the Top 25 this season. BSU was ranked No. 24 in the AP preseason poll and rose to No. 22 before falling out after its week-two loss at the University of Washington.
The only other Western Athletic Conference team currently ranked in the AP top 25 is Hawaii (8-0, 5-0), who reached the No. 12 spot this week.
Sande wins WAC title
Breanna Sande of the Boise State women’s cross-country team was named the Western Athletic Conference Women’s Cross Country Athlete of the Year after she captured the individual title at the WAC Cross Country Championships, Saturday.
Sande posted a 17:01.32 on the 5,000-meter Historic American West Heritage Center in Logan, Utah, to win the race by 9.03 seconds.
The first place finish and one point collected by Sande helped lead the women’s team to a fourth place finish in the conference with 95 points and an average time of 17:44.87.
Three other Broncos finished in the top 25. Chaly Jones concluded her WAC cross-country career by finishing 18th with a 17:42.42, for her fifth top 25 finish this season. Hilary McClendon also earned her fifth top 25 performance as she recorded a 17:50.48 to finish 20th. Carly Gerard registered a 17:50.94 for 21st place and Karleigh Gempler posted an 18:19.17 to round out the scoring for BSU.
The men’s cross country team finished third in the standings with 83 points and an average time of 24:38.08.
Senior Cody Eaton paced the team with a 23:53.63 to finish sixth. Sawyer Bosch was on Eaton’s heels finishing with a 23:58.81 for a seventh place finish.
Kevin Higgs finished 14th with a 24:21.06, while Scott Foley posted a 25:04.42 to place 22nd, and Cameron Lockard finished with a 25:52.44 to round out the scoring for the men.
Nevada overpowers BSU
The Boise State volleyball team put up a fight against Nevada, but fell to the Wolf Pack in three matches with scores of 18-30, 25-30, 26-30, Saturday.
Leading the way for the Broncos was senior Tiffany Starring. Starring hit an impressive .526 (12-2-19) on the night. Junior Mandy Klein continues to set the pace for the Broncos as she recorded her fourth double-double of the year with 27 assists and 10 digs.
Defensively, freshman Lauren Hamm led the attack for the Broncos as she notched nine digs and recorded a pair of service aces. Adding to the defense was Robyn Hewitt, who recorded three blocks against the Wolf Pack.
The Broncos now return home to prepare for their final home stand of the 2007 season as they host New Mexico State, Thursday, and Louisiana Tech, Saturday.
