Students can get “Microsoft Office Ultimate 2007” for only $59.95 so there must be a catch, right?

Normally this software package sells for $650-$700. Yet, there are remarkably few “catches” with this deal. You have to be able to prove that you are a student, usually by giving a valid college e-mail address or identification number. You will need to take advantage of this offer by April 30, 2008. You will need a computer with pre-existing Microsoft support programs and enough free memory to support “Office Ultimate 2007.” “Office Ultimate 2007” may not include everything you want, but it is still a good deal for many students.

According to the Microsoft media release, the “‘Office Ultimate 2007’ is the premium Office suite and provides students with a comprehensive set of tools that can help them create high-quality documents, gather and consolidate lecture notes and other information, stay organized, find what they are looking for quickly and easily collaborate with colleagues and professors across geographical boundaries.”

“This is the complete version of ‘Office’ containing nine programs. They include Word, Excel and Outlook,” Kim Kommando said.  Kommando is the author of nine books on the digital age and host of a radio show which has earned her the title “Digital Godess.”

“Office Ultimate 2007” also contains Groove 2007, which is a collaboration tool, and One Note 2007, which is a digital notebook that allows storing, searching, sorting, and sharing of notes and other documents. The package is available for download for the $59.95 price, but a back-up hard copy can be mailed to the purchaser for a nominal fee. On her Website Kommando advises purchasers to make their own back-up copy as they are downloading the program.

“We’re listening to students who have told us they need ‘Microsoft Office’ for their studies and want more flexible ways to get the latest version,” Alan Yates, general manager of Worldwide Education at Microsoft, said. “We’re committed to providing accessible and affordable technology to students so they can meet their academic goals. The Ultimate Steal is the latest in a long history of providing compelling academic offers for students.”

“Office Ultimate 2007” was tested first with students in Australia.  They complained about the high price of the system. Few college students have enough cash for luxuries, let alone high-priced software. The “Ultimate Steal” was the result.
The “Ultimate Steal” is available to higher education students around the world. As long as you are a verifiable college student when you purchase the program, you qualify to use the software as long as you like.

“If you don’t already have these components on your computer this is a great deal,” Lincoln Newell said.  Newell is an adjunct professor with the Department of Continuing Studies. “I’m encouraging all of my students to check into the ‘Ultimate Steal.’”
