BSU calls for Blue/Orange out
Boise State Athletics is asking all fans to wear either blue or orange, depending on their seating location, for the Southern Mississippi game on Sept. 27. Fans sitting in odd sections in Bronco Stadium are asked to wear orange and even sections are asked to wear blue. North end zone patrons will wear blue, while South End Zone will be in orange. Boise State students who sit in the student section are asked to wear orange. The alternating color scheme is identical to what fans wore at last year’s Fresno State game.
The alternating colors are based on the Southern Miss game being broadcast on ESPN and to create a blue and orange look for the national viewing audience. The Southern Miss game is the first of three consecutive home games on ESPN.
Bronco Athletics will use three different schemes, with another announcement coming prior to the New Mexico State game.
Women’s soccer ties Oregon State
Boise State freshmen Shannon Saxton and Cheyenne Jones led Boise State to a 3-3 draw with Oregon State on the first day of the Montana Nike Cup in Missoula. The duo combined for three goals as the Broncos snapped a five-match losing streak to Pacific-10 Conference schools earning their first ever draw (0-5-1) with a member school. Saxton, the Western Athletic Conference’s leading scorer and ranked fourth nationally, scored two goals to give her nine on the year, moving her into a tie for second all-time at Boise State for goals in a season.
Meanwhile, Jones recorded her first career goal as she became the eighth Bronco this season to score.
Oregon State rallied in the second half scoring two unanswered goals to tie the match up, forcing the first overtime match of the year for Boise State.
The match ended as a 3-3 draw after the two NCAA mandated 10-minute overtime periods were played with neither team scoring. The draw improves Boise State to 3-3-1 on the year, while Oregon State goes to 5-1-1 overall. The Broncos wrapped up tournament play against the University of Montana Sunday afternoon.
