With the opening of the Interactive Learning Center, students now have two options for a caffeine fix on the West side of campus.

One option students can take advantage of while studying late at the Albertson Library and another when hanging out in the Student Union Building.

With cafés popping up on and around campus like daisies, someone needed to compare them all and see which cafés students should be spending their coffee allowance at and why.

Moxie Java:
Moxie Java is located inside the SUB. Moxie is open at 7 a.m. and offers certified fair trade coffees. A 12-ounce cup of standard drip coffee (which they have four blends of daily) is $1.49 and an espresso is $1.59.

Moxie is the only café on campus that rewards the customer with a punch card system.

It also has plenty of tables for students to sit at and enjoy their coffee. Moxie offers a 20 cent discount for customers who bring in their own cup.

Dawson 4.0:
Dawson 4.0 offers the local favorite, Dawson Taylor coffee and espresso.

It’s located in the Multi-Purpose Building and opens at 7 a.m. The economically and environmentally friendly coffee is roasted daily. A standard 12-ounce drip coffee rings in cheapest on campus at 95 cents, with a choice of three different blends.

Expresso is $1.40. It gives a 25 cent discount to customers who bring in their own mug.

Starbucks:
The centrally located and surprisingly big Starbucks is located in the Albertsons Library.

Starbucks serves fair trade coffee and espresso starting a little later than Moxie Java and Dawson’s 4.0 – it opens at 7:30 a.m.

A 12-ounce drip coffee sells for $1.55, but for ten cents cheaper if the patron brings its own mug.

Starbucks offers three freshly brewed blends to choose from
and has a quiet and relaxing atmosphere.

Java City:
Brand new this fall, the Interactive Learning and Teaching Center’s food court houses Java City.

It serves four different blends of EcoGrounds, starting at
7 a.m.

A 12-ounce drip costs $1.29 and it also offers a
discount for bringing in one’s own cup.

The coffee shop is conveniently located, but tends to be a little crowded.

Off campus:
Lucy’s on Broadway Avenue is a great choice for that midday pick-me-up as well as Cup of Joe on Capitol Boulevard.

Wherever students decide to go, they should remember to bring a travel mug to help reduce waste and save some money.
