On Sept. 4 NBC released the third season of its Emmy Award-winning comedy “The Office” on DVD. The four-disc set contains 23 episodes starring Steve Carell (“The 40 Year-Old Virgin,” “Little Miss Sunshine”)  as the boss, Michael Scott, and Rainn Wilson (“Mimsy,” “My Super Ex-Girlfriend”) as side-kick doofus, Dwight Schrute.

The show follows duo Michael and Dwight, along with fellow co-workers Jim Halpert, Pam Beesly, Ryan Howard and others in the daily happenings of the Dunder Mifflin Paper Supply Company.

The mock documentary of the Scranton, Pa., based paper supply company is full of pranks, practical jokes and off-the-wall humor, as well as some office romance and politics
strewn about.

The concept of releasing television shows onto DVD has opened up an entire new market for networks.

Viewers can now watch episodes of their favorite shows at any time and any place, without annoying commercials. Viewers can also choose how many episodes they wish to watch in a row, eliminating suspenseful weeklong waits in between episodes.

Fans of “The Office” are no longer forced to wait until the next episode to see what happens between Jim and Pam, as their ongoing question mark of a relationship unfolds.

“The Office” debuted on NBC in 2005 as the American remake of the award-winning 2001 BBC comedy of the same name.
The popularity earned by the first six episodes of the American version of the show pushed writers to churn out 22 episodes for the second season and 23 more for the third.

Scott and his Scranton branch of Dunder Mifflin face the possibility of downsizing and layoffs among a world of other problems as season three captures his every move.

A new storyline introduces several characters to the show including Karen and Andy, who shake things up with Dwight, Jim and Pam.

A newcomer’s perspective gives even more insight as to how ignorant and annoying Scott really is.

Season three highlights include “The Merger,” an episode depicting the close of one Dunder Mifflin branch and its merger with the Scranton branch, the season two setup “Phyllis’ Wedding,” “Product Recall” and the cliffhanger finale titled “The Job.”

Although there are a few elements of the plot dating back to season one, the third season of “The Office” is fairly easy to get into for new viewers, who can most-likely be filled in on background information from a friend.

“The Office” newbies might just find themselves quoting “that’s what she said!” right along with the die-hard fans.

The third season is available on www.Amazon.com for $31.99 and in most retail stores, including Wal-Mart and Target.
