On Monday, Aug. 20, the Idaho State Department of Agriculture (ISDA) announced that applications for nursery, landscape and floral research and/or education grants are being accepted for the 2008 project year.
The ISDA administers the project for the Idaho Nursery and Florists Advisory Committee, which consists of representatives of four main industries in Idaho agriculture: growers, retail garden centers, landscape contractors and florists.
In affiliation with the Idaho Nursery and Landscape Association, the ISDA and the committee award the grants to support the research and/or education efforts that would benefit the four industries. The committee compiled a short list of suggested topics based on the issues of the four segments, though all submissions are encouraged.
There is no specific number of grants given out each year
or a price.
“The number of grants approved depends upon each individual grant’s relevance and the amount of funds appropriated from the research account,” Bureau Chief of the Plants Industries Division Michael Cooper said.
According to Ann Bates of the Idaho Nursery and Landscape Association, participants are offered professional experience based on the educational value of the project.
All proposals should span a one-year period. Proposals should contain a short mid-year report and a detailed final
report setting forth the research/education results, as part of the grant process.
Project proposals are reviewed, evaluated and prioritized by the members of the Idaho Nursery and Florists Advisory Committee.
Grant applications must be postmarked on or before Oct. 15, 2007. Application forms and guidelines can be found at
www.agri.idaho.gov.
