


The Boise State volleyball team hit the road for the first time this season to try and improve upon its 2-1 preseason record. The women traveled to Gonzaga University for a two-day tournament against Morgan State University, University of Washington and Gonzaga.
On Friday, Aug. 31, the Broncos began tournament play against Morgan State. BSU posted its third sweep of the season with a 30-23, 30-23, 30-18 defeat of the Bears. The decisive victory marked the first time since 2000 that BSU has swept three of its first four games of the year.
Sophomore Arlee Tamietti led the Broncos offensively with18 kills and four service aces in the match. Junior setter Mandy Klein moved into sixth place in the BSU record books for career assists. Klein recorded 37 assists against MSU.
On day two the Broncos hit a bit of a roadblock, dropping match one in three games to the Washington Huskies.
The Huskies entered the match ranked No. 8 in the country and handled the Broncos 18-30, 17-30, 19-30. Tamietti notched nine kills in the match.
Later Saturday evening the Broncos took the court for their last match of the tournament against Gonzaga. The women kept pace with the Bulldogs for almost every game but failed to avoid a 26-30, 22-30, 26-30 sweep.
Freshman libero Lauren Hamm had her coming-out party against the Bulldogs. Hamm recorded 22 digs against GU, a career-high. Hamm leads the Broncos with 79 digs this season and is averaging 4.4 digs per game.
Tamietti tallied another 10 kills against the Bulldogs and earned a spot on the Gonzaga Tournament All-Tourament team. Tamietti was also named to the All-Tournament team at the Bronco Invitational a week ago.
