Ambient has that homegrown band touch

Locally grown band Ambient has incredible potential to someday become one of the top bands, and many of their fans consider them the best already.

Band members Cody Sauer (vocals), Joel Hager (drums), Brad  Hill (guitar) and Matt Dalley (bass) rock out on stages all across the Treasure Valley with a genre of music they can’t even describe.

The hardcore-rock enthusiasts fit loosely into an alternative rock genre but can be categorized into many other genres including indie, rock and possibly even country.

The band played at Warped Tour 13 at the Idaho Center in Nampa. According to the band they were selected to play among big-name performers because those on the tour felt confident in the band’s ability.

Ambient formed about two and a half years ago.

“Joel and I worked together at a car lot in Nampa,” Sauer said.
“I had split out from a previous metal band and we decided to kind of get our own thing going.”

The members’ highly-positive attitudes toward each other carry over into their music in their most recognizable songs, “Redhead” and “Step Into the Sound.”

Ambient remains insistent on the fact that its music is abstract compared to the rest of the Boise music scene and certainly doesn’t fit in – but in a good way.

“We tend to be a lot more funk-based and we combine that with metal in a lot of places,” Dalley said.

They also incorporate a significant amount of classic rock into their music.

“We’ve been compared to the funkier side of rock. Maybe the Red Hot Chili Peppers [or] Sublime,” Sauer said.

The band isn’t signed with a record label, and doesn’t plan to sign any time soon, for fear of being confined to certain types of music.

The members don’t want to be forced to put limits on their creativity right now.

Ambient adds adds a wonderful bit of diversity to Boise’s rich local music scene.

Ambient can be contacted via its Myspace page, myspace.com/ambientband.

Ambient will also be guest starring on and epsode of the Arbiter’s podcast “Live in the City of Trees,” which can be found at arbiteronline.com/podcasts.
