Every year the College of Health Sciences recognizes outstanding teaching, research and service. At the annual scholarship ceremony on April 27, Boise State honored five faculty and staff members.

Bonnie Lind, associate research professor and director of research for the Idaho Nursing Workforce Center receive the Excellence in Faculty Research Award. Lind is the former assistant director of Boise State’s Center for Health Policy and has extensive experience in research. She also has an emphasis in health services and cardiovascular disease.

“I want to be remembered as being someone who is a good
resource to other faculty, that they can come to for help on their
research,” Lind said.

The Excellence in Faculty Service Award went to Linda Osgood. Osgood is an informatics instructor in the BSU Department of Community and Environment Health. In May 2006, she received the Distinguished Member award from the Idaho Health Information Management Association. She served as interim director of the IHIM program this past year and was also named president-elect.

“I think it’s really important to be involved,” Osgood said. “In the school [and] community. I think it’s important to take your knowledge and skill to help the college and community.”

This year’s Excellence in Faculty Teaching Award went to Pam Gehrke, associate professor in the department of Nursing. She has taught at Boise State since 1987. She teaches community health nursing and involves her students in several community projects. Her policy courses are known for their advocacy skill development. Besides pursuing research interests in community health, public health, home health and childhood immunizations, she is also an active participant in numerous local and state boards and task forces.

Administrative Assistant of the Department of Radiologic Sciences Sue Crichton received the Excellence in Staff Service Award. Crichton has been an employee of BSU since November 2006. She is the assistant building coordinator for the Health Sciences Riverside Building.

She serves as treasurer and president-elect of BSU’s Shared Leadership Institute. She also served on the planning committee for the Governor’s Conference on Housing and
received an award of recognition for exceptional contributions.
Crichton served in many positions for United Way and as assistant coach for the East Boise Little League.

The Dean’s Award for Professional Service to the College of Health Sciences went to Pat Taylor this year. Taylor is the associate chair for Student Affairs and professor in the department of Nursing. She has been at BSU since 1974 and teaches critical care, pathophysiology and medical/surgical nursing. She is nationally certified as a critical nurse. She is also one of two people in Idaho trained to teach the basic parish nursing preparation course. She will retire this year and plans to travel with her husband and enjoying life while they are both still in good health.

“I’ve been teaching for 32 years; I’ve taught a lot of nurses in the valley,” Taylor said. “I feel like I’ve touched a lot of lives, helped a lot of students become good nurses. That’s what it’s all about, is touching lives.”
