Registration for summer program sessions at Bose State University is underway. Students can select form a wide variety of core, upper-division, graduate and Internet-based classes, as well as from a large selection of short workshops.

According to Linda Urquidi of Extended Studies, there are more than 450 courses and workshops offered, with a variety of lengths and start dates to choose from.

This year’s workshop topics range from Foreign Aid Policies to Desert Studies, from Shakespeare to Basque tree carving.
“Most summer classes meet four days a week or less, so students can earn credits and still enjoy long summer weekends,” Dean of Extended Studies at Boise State Mark Wheeler said.

Students can help fast-track their education by enrolling for summer courses, or catch courses they were unable to take in the fall and spring. Additional benefits of enrollment in the summer programs include no credit limit, reduced per-credit fees and no appointment for registration.

According to Urquidi, students can reach their goals sooner if they take summer courses, as well as improve their GPAs and build their skills.

“The very popular three-week session runs May 10 to June 3 and allows students the opportunity to take classes and have the rest of the summer to enjoy or work,” Urquidi said. “One of the biggest benefits is that students can graduate in four years by taking summer classes. Just imagine what a savings that is in the long run.”

According to Urquidi, summer courses cost less than the following fall semester’s fees, which are set at the April meeting of the State Board of Education. Picking up one or two classes in the summer could save a student thousands of dollars if it helps shorten completion of his or her degree by even a semester.

“New students can submit an on-line application. Out-of-state fees do not apply in summer,” Urquidi said.

Classes are available on the Boise campus, as well as Boise State West in Nampa. Students can also take a variety of classes at the Nampa campus, and are able to complete the first two years of their college education there.

Summer registration is open enrollment with no appointment necessary and currently enrolled students can register on BroncoWeb starting in early February every year.
