One of the many assets Boise State University has is its
faculty. BSU professors are no ordinary professors.

Many go above and beyond the duty of just teaching, guiding, shaping and empowering students who will shape the future.
Aside form the great responsibilities of teaching many are involved in research and writing books to aid future students.

The Albertsons Library hosted the 2nd annual faculty and university author recognition reception to honor those outstanding professors. BSU recognized 185 authors Feb. 7 and applauded them for their outstanding scholarly work.

“Albertsons library decided about 18 months ago that events recognizing the faculty and university authors would be a wonderful way to support the scholarship and research happening across campus. The library has always actively collected faculty publication and the recognition events seemed a natural outgrowth,”  Barbra Glackin, head of cataloging and online catalog said.

Faculty from every department were honored. The College of Arts and Sciences boasted the largest group of authors with 48 faculty members recognized. The runner up was College of Education with 38. College of Social Sciences had 34, Engineering 29, Business and Economics 17, Health Sciences 9 and Applied Technology 1. Rick Stoddart from Albertsons library was also recognized.

The library now has a collection of 386 citations, 35 books, 46 chapters, 34 conferences, 169 journals and three patents from all of these talented professors.

“Any university faculty or employee can be recognized,” Glackin said. “All works being honored this year were published between Sept. 1, 2005 and Aug. 31, 2006.”

This year music CDs, jewelry and a painting that was featured in a museum were also included.

According to Glackin University faculty and administration were extremely supportive and the event has grown a great deal in just one year. Last year on Feb. 9, 2006, 142 authors were recognized. Between the dates of Sept. 1, 2004 to Aug. 31, 2005 there were 306 citations. There’s no doubt that this event will grow more each year. Already for next year 16 citations have been received.

With all the talent that blossoms from BSU, Dean of University Libraries Marilyn Moody couldn’t have been more right when she said that Boise State is a place of exceptional research, academic excellence and vibrant culture.
