After losing 22 seniors from the 2006 Boise State football team Head Coach Chris Petersen knew the only thing to do was reload. Petersen held a press conference Wednesday to announce a finalized list of high school and junior college players who have signed a national letter of intent with the Broncos.

“We’re really excited this day is finally here,” Coach Petersen said. “I know at the end of recruiting everyone is always glad. It seems like it’s been going on for so long. A little bit like the football season I think it’s been a remarkable recruiting season too.”

The Broncos’ list of recruits consists of 25 players (15 defensive and 13 offensive). The recruiting base spans nine states and two countries. California was once again the highest-recruited state with nine players committing to join the BSU program.

Seven Idaho signees are joining the Broncos this year, all of which are from the Treasure Valley. Matt Kaiserman, a running back from Skyview High School in Nampa, headlines the local talent pool after being named the 2006 Gatorade Player of the Year for the State of Idaho. Kaiserman rushed for 1,782 yards in his senior season at Skyview.

The Broncos also were able to secure a commitment from highly decorated quarterback Kellen Moore of Prosser High School in Prosser, Wash. Moore Was named the 2006 Gatorade Player of the Year in the State of Washington after setting state career records for completions (787) and touchdown passes (173). He led Prosser to a 12-1 mark after throwing 67 touchdowns and just seven interceptions as a senior.

Coach Petersen addressed the coaching staff’s excitement from recruiting players like Kaiserman and Moore, however, he did say he was so happy with the overall recruiting class that there isn’t one kid he can single out as a prized recruit.

“We feel awesome about the kids,” Petersen said. “Obviously as football players that’s why we recruited them. But every house that we’ve been in we just really had strong feelings about these guys as people. We like their families and we’re excited to get them here and start coaching them.”

Breaking down the recruiting class by position the Broncos recruited its heaviest amount of players on the offensive and defensive lines. Of the 25 signees BSU inked 12 lineman and one or two other players who could possibly be converted into lineman.

Despite coach Petersen’s contentment with the recruiting year, the Broncos were snubbed by some recruiting web sites, some of whom ranked the BSU recruiting class as low as No. 102 in the country (espn.com).

Petersen did say he was looking forward to next year’s recruiting season because he feels the success of the 2006 team will finally be in full effect.

“We’re also excited for next season,” Petersen said. “We know there is going to be some ramifications for next season. Really a lot of these guys we got were committed to us before our season ended. So we’re excited to see how it’s going to go next year as well.”
