Uh, ASBSU, we have a problem here

Story

There is a problem that I would like to point out to the students of Boise State University. That problem is the ASBSU Senate Pro-Temp, Sen. Greg Wilson. In the last two Senate sessions, Sen. Wilson has limited and controlled the voices of the very students that elected him into office.

During the first Senate session, Sen. Wilson limited gallery comments to two people. In all of the Senate sessions that I have attended, that is by far the shortest session of gallery comments I have ever witnessed.

During the second Senate session Sen. Wilson yet again limited the voices of the students. He stated that he would not allow signs of “protest” in the Senate chamber. The signs of “protest” were actually signs of support for a student organization that was making an argument before the Senate.

That is the very purpose of the ASBSU Senate. It is supposed to be an open forum for students to bring attention to the issues that are of concern to them. By limiting the speech of the students that elected him, Sen. Wilson is assaulting the very spirit of the ASBSU student senate.

Something else to mention is that in the Senate chambers there was a giant pledge sheet signed by a large amount of students who supported diversity at Boise State. The only reason that Sen. Wilson allowed the sign to stay in the chamber was because it had been placed there before he stated his rule. Apparently a pledge of diversity signed by the very students that elected him is a sign of protest, in his eyes.

I believe that Sen. Greg Wilson is over stepping his position and is abusing his very limited powers. It has come to my attention that the vice president who is supposed to run Senate sessions is in class this semester during the Senate sessions.

I believe that ASBSU Vice President Molly George needs to be made aware of how the Senate pro-temp is running the Senate in her absence.

The VP needs to pull the reigns as it were on Senate pro-temp Greg Wilson. Sen. Wilson needs to get off his power trip and allow the students of BSU to have their voice.
