EUGENE, Oregon – Mattias Jons set a Boise State University record in the men’s hammer and Antoine Echols qualified for the NCAA west regional in the men’s 200-meter dash as both came away winners at the annual Oregon Invitational.

Jons posted the third best collegiate hammer mark in the country this season when he posted a throw of 230-8 (70.30m) in winning on Friday (April 21) night. In the process he broke his previous school record which was 227-10 (69.44m) set during the 2005 season. Jons’ throw marked the first time in his career he went over the 70-meter mark in the hammer.

Echols won the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.18. He becomes the eighth member of the Boise State men’s team to qualify for the regional championships and the first Bronco runner to do so this season. The other seven men qualifiers compete in the throwing events for Boise State.

Two members of the Bronco women’s team posted career highlights on the University of Oregon campus this weekend as Jackieann Morain ran the second fastest 400-meter dash in school history, and Becky Gueytte posted a regional qualifying time in the 5,000-meter run.

Morain’s second place time of 54.89 on Saturday was the second fastest outdoor 400-meter run in school history. Sabrina Johnson holds the school record at 53.45 set in 1987.

Competing Friday night, Guyette recorded a personal best in the 5,000-meter run with time of 16:40.65 when she finished fifth. Her previous personal best was 16:52.68 set earlier this year.

Boise State had one other first place finisher on Saturday (April 22) when Paige Olivetti won the B section of the women’s 400-meter hurdles with a time of 57.49.

Sterling Small also had a second place finish for the Bronco men when he finished runner-up in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 52.75.

Staffan Jonsson and Eric Matthias both competed in the discus with Jonsson placing eighth with a personal best throw of 195-11 (59.71m) and Matthias 27th with a mark of 169-5 (51.64m).

Former Boise State All-American and 2004 United State Olympic Trails Champion Jared Rome won the event with a throw of 214-11 (65.51m).
