Voting for the spring 2006 ASBSU elections began yesterday and continues today until midnight.

Students can vote from any computer with an Internet connection. The link can be found on the Broncoweb homepage, on the right side of the page with the heading “ASBSU Voting.”

In order to vote, a student must log in with the same user name and password used to access Broncoweb. In addition, there will also be designated polling places located on campus, though it is recommended that students vote anywhere they can access the Internet.

According to ASBSU Election Board Adviser Jerilyn Grow, improvements are being made to the online voting system every year.

“There may not be many changes that students notice, but our energy and resources goes toward making the online voting website both user-friendly and secure,” Grow said. “The biggest change this year is that we are working with a private technology firm, independent from the university, to implement and maintain the site.”

Last year 1,584 students voted in the election, which was almost 9.5 percent of the total student body.

“Obviously our voter turnout is not a substantial portion of the student population, but it is not inconsistent with other colleges and universities,” Grow said. “Providing, the ballot online has helped increase our turnout quite a bit, because students do not have to be on campus or at a specific location to vote.”

Candidate profiles are available on the ballot, including a picture and the main platform issues of each one.
