The upset losses by Florida State over Virginia Tech and Georgia dominating LSU Saturday shook up the Bowl Championship Series match-ups on Sunday.
Georgia’s win over LSU gave the Bulldogs the SEC title and into the Nokia Sugar Bowl against West Virginia.
Florida State (8-4) was all but set to play against Boise State in the MPC Computers Bowl before playing the upset card in the win over Virginia Tech on Saturday, and will now play Penn State in the FedEx Orange Bowl.
The vacancy was left free for Boise State to play 19th ranked Boston College in the MPC Computers Bowl on Dec. 28 at Bronco Stadium.
The Eagles finished the regular season with a 8-3 overall record and 5-3 in the Atlantic Coast Conference. Boston College finished second in the Atlantic division of the ACC behind conference champion Florida State.
The match-up at Bronco Stadium will be against two cold climate teams, and the third nationally ranked opponent this season for Boise State.
The two teams have never met.
The Eagles were the second best offense in the ACC this season, averaging 388.2 total yards per game.
The defense is led by defensive end Mathias Kiwanuka. The senior standout is second in the ACC with 9.5 sacks and 15.5 tackles for loss.
Other bowl match-ups have Fresno State against Tulsa in the Liberty Bowl. Despite losing the final three games of the season, the Bulldogs accepted the invite to the Memphis, Tenn. based bowl game following the loss to USC. Tulsa got in after defeating Central Florida for the Conference USA title. Nevada will travel to Hawaii to play UCF in the Sheraton Hawaii Bowl on Christmas Day.
La Tech had an outside chance to get an invite to maybe the New Orleans Bowl or the Las Vegas Bowl, but were not invited to either despite a seven-win season and an upset road win against Fresno State on Friday night. BYU will California in the Las Vegas Bowl and Southern Miss and Arkansas State will play in the New Orleans Bowl on Dec. 20. Two-time defending national champions USC will play Texas in the Rose Bowl on Jan. 4 for the national title.
