BOISE, Idaho — It wasn’t perfect. That’s about all the bad things that can be said about Boise State’s second half against Montana in Taco Bell Arena on Friday night. Boise State played near perfect basketball after the break scoring 56 points, shooting 56.7 percent from the floor, 45.5 percent from 3-point range and 81 percent from the free throw line, while committing just four turnovers en route to a 90-69 season-opening win over the Grizzlies in front of 6,293 fans.
Perfection wasn’t the story early as Boise State fell behind 8-0 with less than two minutes gone in the game and trailed 40-34 at the half. But it was all Boise State from there, as the Broncos went on a 13-2 run to start the second half and take the lead for good.
But it might have been a couple of new faces that were most instrumental in the win. Junior college transfer Tyler Tiedeman scored all 13 of his points in the second half. He also had five of his eight rebounds and three of his five assists after the break. Sophomore Matt Bauscher, who redshirted last season, added 17 points, eight rebounds and five assists in 26 minutes of action.
Junior Eric Lane scored 19 points, 15 in the second half, and had four steals for the Broncos, while senior Tez Banks added 10 points and seven rebounds.
