Three members of the Boise State University men’s golf team finished in the top 15 at the Purple and Red Invitational Tuesday, giving the Broncos a share of second place.
Senior Graham DeLaet led the way for the Broncos with a three-round total of 212 (-4). DeLaet’s final-round 5-under 67, the second-lowest score of the day, propelled him up the leader board to finish tied for fifth place.
In DeLaet’s last 25 tournaments, he has recorded eight tournament victories and 16 top-10 finishes. Included in that span was a win last week at the Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational, where he set a tournament record with a three-round score of 206 (-10).
Sophomore, and 2004 WAC Freshman of the Year, Matt Hastings finished tied for 10th with a three-round total of 214 (-2). In nine career tournaments with the Broncos, Hastings has recorded six top 25 finishes and three top 10 finishes respectively.
Junior Kyle Daniell-Gustin, a native of Meridian, Idaho, finished tied for 14th. Daniell-Gustin posted a 217 (+1) in his first tournament with the Broncos since transferring from Walla Walla Community College.
The shot of the week belonged to senior Jake Sestero. Sestero aced the 12th hole, a 227-yard par 3, and finished with a three-round total of 228 (+12).
As a team, the Broncos finished tied for second with co-host school Weber State. Rounding out the scoring for the Broncos was senior Jason Williams. Williams posted a 54-hole total of 223 (+7), missing a top 25 finish by only three strokes.
