The Wyoming Cowgirls defeated the Boise State Broncos in three games (30-23 30-22 34-32) in the opening match of 2005 for Boise State and the third match of the year for Wyoming (2-1).
The Broncos were led by senior outside hitter Telia Peterson who had 11 kills and nine digs. Cameron Flunder added nine kills and three blocks. Jamie Claussen had four kills. Gabby Navarrete added four kills and five blocks. Tiffany Starring had three kills anda team-high eight blocks. Freshman setter Mandy Klein had 24 assists, eight digs and five blocks.
As a team, the Broncos had 34 kills, but 31errors on 132 attempts. The team had 31assists, five aces, 42 digs and 12 blocks. Wyoming had 44 kills and 25 errors on 119 attempts. The Cowgirls also had 37 assists, five aces, 57 digs and four blocks.
On Friday night, the Boise State volleyball team defeated Northern Colorado in four games in the Broncos second match of the young 2005 season. The score when Boise State defeated Northern Colorado was 30-25, 31-33, 30-24, 30-26.
The Broncos had three players in double figures in kills – freshman Jeanette Jenkins (17), Telia Peterson (15) and Cameron Flunder (13). Mandy Klein had 53 assists. Peterson also had 14 digs and four blocks.Flunder added three aces, nine digs and four blocks to her stats. Tiffany Starring led the team in blocks with seven. Jackie Stroud led the Broncos in digs with 22. Jamie Clausen added eight kills, eight digs and five blocks in the match.
As a team, the Broncos had 64 kills, 58 assists, seven aces, 71 digs and 14.5 blocks. Northern Colorado was led by Amanda Wiggins and Lizzy Rhoads who each had 18 kills. Northern Colorado had 57 kills, 53 assists, 70 digs and six blocks.
The Utah Valley State Wolverines defeated the Boise State Broncos in volleyball Tuesday night in an intense four-game match (23-30, 30-18, 30-26, 33-31).
The Broncos (1-2) now travel to Texas Tech where they will play in a tournament versus the Red Raiders, Georgia and San Diego State (Sept. 9-10).
Boise State had three players in double figures in kills – Jeanette Jenkins with 20, Telia Peterson with 14 and Cameron Flunder with 10. Mandy Klein had 47 assists. Jackie Stroud had three service aces and nine digs. Flunder and Peterson had three blocks each.
Utah Valley State was led by Anne Olsen’s 14 kills and Camie Manwell’s 12. Maegan hoty added 17 digs. lacee Koelliker had 44 assists and 11 digs.
The Broncos had 62 kills, hit .276 and had 55 assists, 39 digs and 7.5 blocks as a team. Utah Valley State had 58 kills, hit .229 and had 49 assists, 52 digs and eight team blocks. The Broncos had six aces but 23 service errors. Utah Valley State had five aces and 13 service errors.
Boise State is not home again until Sept. 29 when the Broncos host new WAC opponent Utah State at 7 p.m. in Bronco Gym.
