Student Activities Program Coordinator Autumn Haynes has replaced Melissa Wintrow as coordinator of the Women’s Center. The change took place about two weeks ago, according to officials as the Women’s Center.

Wintrow has joined Student Housing as the assistant director of residence life.

Wintrow ran the Women’s Center for five years and was the first full-time coordinator. Haynes said that she will be interim coordinator until a permanent replacement for Wintrow is found via a national search.

“I absolutely loved my work at the Women’s Center,” Wintrow said. “I’ve been a feminist my whole life.”

But Wintrow said she saw the change of positions as an excellent opportunity for career development.

As the new assistant director of residence life, Wintrow will put her work experience to use in her new job.

She was a resident assistant at Miami University in Ohio and supervised three residence halls at Michigan State University, where she also began her work as a crime victim advocate.

While she is no longer employed by the Women’s Center, Wintrow will continue to be involved with the center’s activities.

“Just because I’m not working at the Women’s Center doesn’t mean I won’t be a presence there,” Wintrow said.

Wintrow is confident that Haynes is the right choice for the Women’s Center at this time.

“She’s a really smart choice, especially because of her skills at event planning,” said Wintrow. “She’ll be a great stabilizing force until a permanent coordinator is hired.”

Haynes says she has always been an ally for the Women’s Center. She directed the Vagina Monologues in 2002 and participated in numerous Women’s Center activities.

“At the Women’s Center, I’m planning to raise awareness about women’s issues on campus and be an advocate for sexual assault response,” Haynes said.

Haynes will be helping with new Women’s Center programs this fall. On Aug. 26, it will present the documentary “Transgeneration.” The film follows four college students as they re-identify their gender while attending school. A cast member of the film will be present at a screening of the film to talk about the experience of gender re-identification and address questions at BSU’s Special Events Center.

The Bra Project auction will be held on Oct. 13 to raise money for Breast Cancer Action, a non-profit organization that funds breast cancer research. Local artists will be commissioned to design bras to be sold at auction.

The Idaho Council on Domestic Violence and Victim Assistance honored Wintrow for crime victim advocacy on June 7, as reported in The Arbiter’s “Women’s Center coordinator wins award for victim advocacy” on June 22.
