Shakespeare Festival offers unique entertainment

If you have yet to experience the Idaho Shakespeare Festival, there is no better time than the present.

This season, the Idaho Shakespeare Festival is presenting five shows, “The Taming of the Shrew,” “She Stoops To Conquer,” “A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum,” “King Lear,” and last but certainly not least, “The Complete Works Of William Shakespeare.” The latter may sound long, but it’s brilliant how three actors cram thirty-seven plays into two acts. Absolutely not to be missed.

The shows display a bundle of comedic talent. The actors come from all over, and it is quite fascinating to read some of their bios. The plays last approximately four hours, with an intermission half way through. At that point, you can wander to the courtyard, where local restaurants and vendors serve everything from salads and entrees, to desert and coffee (sorry to say, no espresso).

We are so fortunate to live in a city that appreciates the arts. The Idaho Shakespeare Festival is fully funded by sponsors and ticket sales, so keep that in mind when you go to purchase your tickets.

The cost is about twice as expensive as going to a movie, but well worth it, especially since you can bring your own food, wine, beer, or whatever else you fancy (unlike the movies where you have to sneak in your own water). Since the entire show is pretty long, bring something comfy to sit on if you don’t have reserved seats.

The Idaho Shakespeare Festival is located in southeast Boise, alongside the Boise River. Don’t be deceived when you head to the show in 90-degree weather. Since it is next to the river, it gets extremely chilly as soon as the sun goes down. The ambiance is beautiful, with the audiences’ backs against the sunset, beyond the stage, you can watch the sun set against the foothills and enjoy the show.
