Fort Collins, Colo. – Colorado State University Director of Athletics Mark Driscoll today announced the appointment of Jen Warden as the school's new women's basketball search. Her appointment will be forwarded to the Board of Governors of the Colorado State University system for final approval.
Driscoll said Warden will be introduced to the media during a news conference at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the McGraw Center auditiorium.
"Jen is a person who brings great energy, knowledge, and enthusiasm to our program," said Driscoll of the announcement. "From the moment we first discussed this position with her, it was apparent she was an individual who can foster growth for our program and provide our student-athletes with a successful athletic and academic experience."
Warden interviewed on campus last week, meeting with campus and athletic department staff and administrators, and having the chance to meet with returning members of Colorado State's women's team.
Warden just completed her third season as head coach of the Broncos.
She inherited a program making the transition from the Big West Conference to membership in the Western Athletic Conference. In her three seasons as head coach, she featured the league's freshman of the year once, and had two players selected to the all-newcomer team.
Warden formerly played collegiately at the University of Colorado, then spent 10 seasons as an assistant coach in the program and developing a reputation as a nationally-known recruiter. A native of Denver, she graduated from Denver Christian High School.
"There were many appealing things about Jen's candidacy," said Driscoll. "She has a detailed knowledge about the high school players and coaches in the state of Colorado. Jen has the well-deserved reputation as an excellent recruiter. I know that she is going to have a very positive impact on our program for many years to come."
Warden becomes the ninth head coach in the program's history since the team's inaugural season in 1974-75. Since 1996, Colorado State has appeared in five NCAA Tournaments and three times played in the WNIT.
The 1999 team advanced to the Sweet 16 in the NCAA Tournament.
Warden is expected to take over guidance of the program immediately following her news conference. Driscoll said Warden had agreed to a five-year contract with a base salary of $115,000.
