For the fourth consecutive season, the Boise State women’s basketball team advanced to the quarterfinals of the Western Athletic Conference tournament, and for the fourth consecutive season, the Broncos lost to La Tech in the quarterfinals. This time it wasn’t even close, as La Tech held control of the game from buzzer to buzzer, beating the Broncos 81-68 yesterday at Lawlor Events Center in Reno, Nev.

La Tech is now 11-1 all-time versus Boise State and 4-0 versus the Broncos in quarterfinal games in as many seasons.

The Broncos never had a chance versus the Lady Techsters, as they led by as many as 26 in the first half and took a 47-30 halftime lead.

Just one day after committing just 14 turnovers against UTEP, the Broncos committed 11 in the first half against La Tech.

A huge second half by Nadia Begay gave the Broncos a little sign of life late in the game, but they never came within 11. Begay finished the game with 18 points, all in the second half, but La Tech was just too tough. Erica Taylor led the Lady Techsters with 21 points, and Lakiste Barkus added 20 points for La Tech.

Harris finished the game with 10 points, five rebounds, and seven assists for the Broncos.

On Tuesday afternoon, the Broncos advanced to the quarterfinals of the WAC tournament for the fourth consecutive season with a 55-50 win over UTEP.

Cassidy Blaine led the Broncos with 17 points and four rebounds as freshman Tasha Harris added 14 points for Boise State.

The Broncos led by as many as 12 points early in the second half, but the Miners pulled the game within three with less than a minute to play. The Broncos scored again to increase the lead to five, and on the inbound pass, the Miners attempted to roll the ball down the court to save clock time, but Harris picked the ball off and tossed it to Blaine, who was promptly fouled and sealed it up with her two free throws.

The Broncos are now 4-0 in first round games in the conference tournament since joining the WAC.

Early foul troubles for the Miners post players gave the Broncos an early chance to drive the ball into the paint and go to the line.

Boise State will return their four leading scorers from this season, which include three lady Broncos who have been named to the all-freshman team in as many seasons. Their 10 wins also match their most victories since moving to the WAC in 2001-02. However, with just 29 games played this season, the Broncos 10-19 record is their best in that same time period.
