Klein said he was a part of a student government a few years ago that took care of the issues affecting students at the time. Klein/Evans say that the current student government is stagnant. If elected, they plan to tackle issues such as removing the Taco Bell Arena name from the Pavilion. Klein/Evans said they want to create a student government that is respectable, visible, and more pro-active when it comes to issues. This, they believe, is what sets them apart from the other candidates.
Taylor and Molly
Newbold/George want to expand the involvement of student minority groups in ASBSU and other student leadership groups because they feel minorities are underrepresented. In doing so, Newbold/George want to promote and increase diversity on campus. If elected Newbold/George would work with the Bookstore to make sure two copies of all required textbooks are available at Albertson’s Library for students to use. Newbold and George feel that their campus involvement during their collegiate careers sets them apart from the other candidates.
Tabielle and Jefferson
Antchekov/Day said they are running based on their record s as senators. Antchekov/Day said they are number one and two in writing the most ASBSU legislation. Antchekov/Day said the current senate has been taken over by partisan politics. Day said they want a constitutional convention to give checks and balances to the branches of government. Antchekov said the constitution gives too much power to the president. Antchekov/Day want student justices to be elected by students and not appointed by the president. Antchekov/Day said they have proven themselves through their senate careers and are effective legislators, which sets them apart from the other candidates.
Joe and Kamron
Holladay/Ahmed feel that ASBSU has been an ineffective body and want to increase communication between ASBSU and students. If elected, Holladay/Ahmed would create the Senate Urgent Affairs Committee, a fact-finding committee that would focus on time sensitive issues like Taco Bell Arena and tuition fees. Online polls would be placed on ASBSU.org, allowing students to vote on issues thereby giving ASBSU an idea of students’ interests. Holladay/Ahmed want to renovate the Director of Student Affairs position, creating a better liaison between ASBSU, students, clubs and the university’s administration. Holladay and Ahmed said they have a vision and know what they’re doing and that puts them ahead of the other candidates.
