BOISE, Idaho – The competition for the starting

quarterback job remained tight after the first scrimmage of the

fall. Six Bronco quarterbacks combined to throw for 538 yards and

five touchdowns as the Bronco offense put up big plays against the

Bronco defense.

Sophomore Jared Zabransky and senior Mike Sanford both looked

impressive guiding the Broncos to two early touchdowns. Sanford led

the first-team offense to a touchdown on the second possession of

the game. Sanford capped the drive with a 31-yard touchdown to

sophomore Derek Schouman. Sanford finished the scrimmage completing

9-of-16 passes for 137 yards with a touchdown and an

interception.

Zabransky led the second-team offense to an early touchdown as

well. Zabransky found Drisan James with a 10-yard scoring strike to

cap the drive. Zabransky finished the scrimmage completing 10-of-15

passes for 168 yards and a touchdown.

Redshirt freshman Taylor Tharp put up big numbers in leading the

team to a couple of late touchdowns. Tharp, who completed 6-of-9

passes for 154 yards and two touchdowns, found James and Jovan

Hutchinson on a pair of 65-yard scoring plays on back-to-back

drives.

Sophomore Legedu Naanee also threw a touchdown pass in the

scrimmage. He connected with Schouman on a 45-yard strike. Naanee

finished the scrimmage completing 2-of-4 passes for 59 yards with a

touchdown and an interception.

The Broncos scored on defense and special teams as well. Freshman

Ashlei Nyong-Dunham picked off a Sanford pass and returned it 50

yards for a touchdown. Senior Chris Carr returned a punt 82 yards

for a touchdown.

Schouman led the offense with five catches for 115 yards and two

touchdowns. James added four catches for 133 yards and two

touchdowns. Junior Antwaun Carter led the Broncos rushing attack

with 54 yards on four carries.
