Analysts examine Saddam TV appearance

USIRAQ-SADDAM:WA–CIA analysts have concluded from computerized voiceprint analysis that it was Saddam Hussein, not one of his lookalikes, who appeared on television shortly after the U.S. attempted to kill the Iraqi leader and his top commanders early Thursday morning in Baghdad.

But the officials still aren’t sure whether his appearance was live or prerecorded.

CIA Director George Tenet remains confident that the attack killed at least one and probably more top Iraqi leaders, a senior U.S. official says.

U.S. war planners hope that whether or not Saddam was killed, Thursday’s bombing will cripple the leadership and bring the war to a rapid end.
