Tempers flared in the SUB last week.
On Jan. 21, at a about 6:45 p.m., two students approached another student. Words were exchanged. One of the students pulled a knife on the two students, reportedly near the pool tables.
No one was injured in the fight, and all three agreed not to press any charges.
A police report was filed, according to Sergeant Gary Rouse, of the Ada County Police Dept.
Two of the parties involved were banned from the Student Union Building for a year, and the other was banned from the REC Center for a year. The University is looking at filing charges against one of the three people involved, Rouse said.
At this point, it is doubtful that any of the three students involved will be expelled from campus.
It is a situation that stemmed from contact between the parties involved-weeks ago, off campus.
They just happened to meet one another again on campus that day. After meeting accidentally, words were exchanged in such a way that one of the men thought it was necessary to pull a knife in order to protect himself.
“Even though the knife was pulled and displayed, it wasn’t used in an aggressive or threatening manner. It was just used to hold off the other two men.” Rouse said.
Campus security reports that no aggravated assault has happened on campus within the last few years. Rouse said that he does not recall any past fights in the SUB. He also said he did not know of any incidence where weapons have ever been pulled or brandished there before.
